STAUNTON — A Staunton man accused of driving drunk and plowing his pickup into a moped driven by a Robert E. Lee High School student on the way to class was jailed Tuesday after violating conditions of his bond, Staunton police said.
On Oct. 11, police arrested Derek Binion, 22, on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol. The wreck severely injured 17-year-old Joshua Canham, who continues to recover. Binion posted bond and was free the day of the accident.
Friday night, police charged Binion with being drunk in public after he got into an altercation with employees at the ClockTower Tavern, but Binion was released by the magistrate's office on a personal recognizance bond. Tuesday, Staunton police arrested Binion and charged him with violating conditions of his earlier bond.
He is being held at the Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
