NORFOLK — A teenager was hospitalized with injuries described as lifethreatening Saturday night after the moped he was operating collided with a pickup.
Cpl. Kurtis D. Stanton, a police spokesman, said the collision occurred at about 8:48 p.m. in the 2700 block of Dominion Ave.
A man who was driving a 2001 Ford pickup east on Dominion told investigators he saw the moped heading toward him just as he was starting to turn north onto David Avenue.
The driver stopped the pickup, but the operator of the moped – described as a boy in his mid-teens – was unable to halt before he struck the pickup.
Stanton said it appeared the headlight on the moped was not on. Additionally, the boy was not wearing a helmet. The youth was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. His name was not released. The incident is under investigation. No charges had been filed Saturday night.
