Friday, Aug. 12: Left around 4 p.m. Stopped in Kalamazoo to see a friend. Stayed in Grand Rapids at a hotel.
Saturday, Aug. 13: Made it to Traverse City and camped in a state campground.
Sunday, Aug. 14: This is the first time Eric’s bike broke down. They had to replace the engine and speed kit. They made it to the bridge and the Upper Peninsula and crossed that morning. They camped on the beach somewhere in Mackinaw City.
Monday, Aug. 15: Eric’s mo-ped broke down again about 5 miles after they crossed the bridge. They rebuilt the engine on a picnic table all day and then camped.
Tuesday, Aug. 16: They headed south from Traverse City to Empire.
Wednesday, Aug. 17: A man from a Christian motorcycle group flagged them down and videotaped them. They made it to
Ludington, where they crossed over by ferry to Wisconsin. To take a motorcycle by ferry costs $20, while a bicycle costs $5. They
argued that they had motorized bicycles and got to cross for $5 apiece.
Thursday, Aug. 18: They rode from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. C.J. had a minor problem on his bike that they were able to fix. They made it to Chicago after riding through a storm and getting pulled over. Eric said the police officer told him they were insane.
Friday, Aug. 19: They made it back to Elkhart at 4 p.m., exactly one week after they left. Devin and Eric each rode a 1978 Puch Maxi. C.J. rode a 1980 Italian Moped.
