Drunk driver leaves restaurant deliveryman clinging to life
Family says he's in a coma, doctors don't believe he'll live
Eyewitness News
(Elmhurst-WABC, January 19, 2006) - A restaurant deliveryman is clinging to life in a coma after his moped was struck by a drunken driver in Queens last night.

Eyewitness News has learned 31-year-old Wei Chang, who works at Lucky Restaurant, was hit while driving on a service road of the Long Island Expressway near 69th Street last night.
Chang was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he is in very critical condition on life support. Family members said he is in a coma, and doctors believe he will not survive.

Police say the driver of the car, 58-year-old John Kieldlowski, was making a left turn onto the service road when he slammed his Toyota SUV into Chang, dragging his moped for several feet.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated after police administered a Breathalyzer test at scene of the accident. The Queens District Attorney is considering upgrading the charges if Chang dies.

Tragic!!!

I've always felt that DUI should be minimum attempted manslaughter! If a person capable of functioning daily in society, carelessly, recklessly, and deliberately aims a 2-ton bullet into an innocent crowd in public, then they need to be punished and be rehabilitated to the point of no longer being a threat to society.

Those charged with DUI on a Moped should walk and become a full-time pedestrian, before they run over one.
