A man accused of firing five shots at a Fort Wayne police officer was arrested Wednesday on charges of criminal recklessness and carrying a handgun without a license, a probable cause affidavit said.

Tarockus N. Calmes, 18, of the 4000 block of Reed Street, is accused of shooting at officer Martin Grooms around 1:30 a.m. May 29.

Grooms was clearing loiterers out of a BP station parking lot when he saw two men riding a yellow moped leave the lot. As the moped traveled south on Anthony Boulevard, Grooms said he heard what he believed was a gunshot coming from the moped, so he took cover and saw Calmes fire four more shots toward him, the affidavit said.

Grooms chased the moped until it crashed, the affidavit said.
