Officers responded to 1075 North Hills Blvd. in Stead on Saturday afternoon, on a report of a major injury accident. Officers determined that the 23-year-old man had been traveling west on North Hills Blvd. when a 2004 Dodge Neon turned left in front of his path. The moped struck the right side of the vehicle, and the man was thrown headfirst into the windshield then landed approximately 30 feet west of the crash. The vehicle was driven by a 39-year-old female Reno resident with her four children inside, and it did not stop after the accident, and even struck an additional vehicle that was exiting the Raley's parking lot.

The man did not appear to be wearing a helmet, and suffered multiple injuries to his spine, leg and head. The moped rider did not appear to be wearing a helmet, though one was strapped to his bike, and suffered multiple injuries to his spine, leg and head. The driver and passengers of the other two vehicles were not injured.

The driver of the Dodge Neon was cited for the Right of Way violation, Expired Drivers License and Child Safety Restraint, as her 4-year-old son was not in a car seat. It does appear that alcohol was a factor for the driver of the moped.
