Pickens County

A Greenville man was arrested Thursday night in Pickens County after leading law enforcement officers on a nearly 30 minute chase through Pickens and Anderson counties.

Corey Lamont Harris, 20, 155 Ridge Road, is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension and possession of marijuana, said Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office incident report, an Pickens Police Department requested assistance after an officer saw occupants of green Honda Accord throw beer bottles out the window. Authorities then learned a woman in the vehicle had called 911 and said her car had been carjacked. She said she and other people were being held in the vehicle against their will.

The chase took officers from Pickens to Easley to Anderson County and back into Pickens County.

During the chase, the vehicle ran a red light, ran through a four-way stop, ran numerous cars off the road, and swerved in and out of traffic, according to the report. The vehicle also almost hit a person on a moped, drove on a grass median and drove into oncoming traffic.

The chase ended on S.C. 123 in Pickens County when the Honda Accord struck a Pickens County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, Mr. Morgan said. Mr. Harris then got out of the vehicle, jumped over a chain-link fence and ran through a field. Sheriff’s Office deputies later apprehended him.

Mr. Harris was taken to Easley Baptist hospital after he complained of shortness of breath and chest pain, according to the incident report.

No one was seriously injured.
