POWNAL, Vt. — State police charged a 38-year-old Pownal man with drunken driving after he tried to escape arrest by fleeding on a Moped Sunday near Barber Pond and Washing Brook roads.
Police said they stopped Alan Moore about 5:45 p.m. for not wearing a helmet and having no registration plates on the moped. After identifying himself, Moore got onto his moped and fled, according to police, who pursued him until he drove onto a trail.

Police located him soon afterward at his residence. In addition to drunken driving, he was charged with attempting to elude police and issued tickets for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, operating an unregistered moped and failing to wear a helmet. He was was issued a citation to appear in Bennington District Court on Oct. 30.
