THE 22-year-old driver of a high-powered Holden Commodore remains in a critical condition at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after his car ploughed into a tree in front of a Coodanup home on Sunday night.
The crash, which killed a 31-year-old Mandurah man in the front passenger seat occurred just before 10pm as the car travelled along Wanjeep Road towards the intersection of Pinjarra Road.

Major Crash investigators believe the driver tried to overtake a moped and crossed to the incorrect side of the road.

The driver appeared to have lost control while trying to get back into the northbound lane, striking an island in the middle of the road and colliding with the tree.

The driver suffered severe head and internal injuries, while the rear passenger, an 18-year-old Mandurah woman, suffered serious leg and hand fractures and possible internal injuries.

Speed is believed to have contributed to the crash.

Anyone who saw the car prior to the collision is asked to call first-class constable Mark Keeble on 9222 1540 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
