Story by

The Jonesboro police chief and an officer have resigned after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation began a probe into the sale of a moped from the department property room.
Neither Chief Jim Roberts nor Sgt. Scott Fornal gave a reason for quitting in their resignation letters.
GBI spokesman John Bankhead said the investigation concerns property seized by the department and how that property is disposed. District Attorney Jewel Scott said the property was a moped, but declined to give other details.
The GBI is seeking a warrant to arrest Fornal. There are no warrants pending against Roberts currently. A grand jury will decide whether Roberts will be indicted on criminal charges.
Jonesboro Mayor Joy Day said Sgt. Wayne Rowland is acting police chief in the Clayton County town of about 3,900.
Roberts' lawyer, Ron White, and Fornal's lawyer, Ricky Morris, did not immediately return calls for comment.

Amazing! Quit your job over a moped. I think the investigation will find other items disposed of improperly. Jim
