Man sentenced for deadly hit and run accident

A Muskegon County man is going to jail for his role in a deadly hit and run accident.

30 year old Christopher Eikenberry pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

17 year old Atom Davis of Spring Lake was killed last August while on his way to a friend's house.

Police say Davis was on his moped when Eikenberry ran the teen over, and then continued on to his Fruitport Township home. Today an Ottawa County judge sentenced Eikenberry to 5 months in jail and two years probation.

Friends of the victim held photos while the sentence was read.

Eva McCoy, family friend; "It was very selfish. He did not want to go to jail, heaven forbid he spend the night in jail because he hit someone. But, it was ok for us to spend our night in the hospital watching Atom die. That is not fair to us, and not fair for our entire family."

The family read to the judge a letter Atom sent to his father just before the August crash. It arrived in the mail the day Atom was killed.

a 17 yr old was killed and he olny gets 5 months? thats fricked up!.i had a friend that did 5 months for unpaid parking tickets! and he gets 5 months for killing a kid!
