Suzuki FA50 project

Postby Breaze » Sun Apr 12, 2009 6:34 pm

Hi all,
I recently acquired a 1980-84 Suzuki FA50 and hoping to get it running. I was hoping for some ideas on a few things now that I have it dismantled and see what I'm up against:

1) The carburetor was in the worst shape so far. The throttle slide seems to be stuck holding the throttle cable in so tight I can barely get the cap off - obviously the throttle cable is stuck not allowing any freeplay. I've used various lubricants including wd40, PB blaster, and carburetor cleaner but no go. I'm thinking I should soak it overnight but not sure what to use. I'd rather not cut the cable - still hoping to use it.

Also looking for a description of the function of the manual choke valve in the carburetor - cable is fine but does not come out - is it stuck also or is it not designed to be removed?

2) How can I find the exact year of the model?

3) Carburetors seem to run about 45-50 used and 65 or so new on e-bay - any suggestions on parts search?

google search for suzuki parts. the FA50 is located under scooters. there are exploded diagrams and such that will help you. if you plan to keep it, do yourself a favor and just replace all the cables. probably wise to do the brakes and tires as well.

as for the year, find the VIN on the frame and ask a suzuki dealer or your local DMV what year it is.
