JCL Scooters. Anybody have any oppinion?

Postby Kevin Harrell » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:42 am

Saw a JCL Scooter for a good (well at least low) price. Anybody have any experience with these scooters?

What I know from looking on the web JCL is an importer that is in Texas that gets their scooters from China, and they have a warehouse with a large parts inventory.

Any additional information would be welcome.

Which specific model? What are the first 3 characters of the VIN?

The model is listed as "JCL150 U1188" and it is a 2007 model. I have not seen the actual bike, but the picture in the advertisement looks like this;

but without the bird head on the fender, and possibly with 10inch tires.

its the lowboy or il-belo style scooter, as for the mfg its
not all that good. scooter is like a johnway or tank which is
not the best scooters from china.

you can tell how good a scooter is by the mfg's warranty
90 -180 days parts only = don't buy it
1 year P&L = consider buying it
2 years P&L = well worth the effort checking it out

scooter ranking by country:
dangerous/mediocre to good is Chinese , better is Taiwanese ,
best is Japanese/Italian
that being said there are some that don't follow the rule
eg; extra good chinese or poor taiwanese

remember a cheap scooter is made to be disposable and will only last
a few short years, parts not really available after 4 years.
its best to buy good used over cheap new.

China GY6 50cc and 125/150cc scooter engine parts are available from numerous online vendors . . example.

Parts shopping can sometimes be a challenge, however. Precise item descriptions are often lacking . . such as jet sizes and roller/slider weights. For example, it is unclear if this listing is for the valve cover or gasket or both . . comparison.

All pretty good advice.

Well I checked it out by making a telephone call and found out that I had confused two adds for two different bikes. The one that I was interested in was a Lance, not a JCL.

Looking up Lance scooters on the web I have come to the conclusion that the people who had problems with their scooters got them delivered to their home without dealer prep. The people who were pleased with their scooter were the people who got their bike through a dealer and that was dealer prepped.

yes a dealer will help you with the prep, but ,still a not so good scooter
will not give the life or service of a better quality brand scooter
remember there is a reason for the lower prices on some scooters.
