I always really liked the look of the People, hence I like the look of the TWIST. The People 50 has been discontinued in the U.S. but, still, it weighs only about 210 lbs., 50 lbs. fewer than the TWIST.
Kymco's also got a People One 125cc (not available in the U.S.) that weighs only 250 lbs! The People S 200cc weighs 270 lbs., about equal to the TWIST with a gallon of milk under the seat.
What the hell is in that bike that makes it so heavy? Maybe it's liquid cooled? Or just poorly engineered? That doesn't seem likely from SYM. I'll bet that it was designed for, and has, a larger engine in other markets. But maybe Tomos specified a 50cc version (or, maybe that's all SYM would let them have) for our market.
