My New Honda Express: Resprayed & Rebuilt

It took us about a week too complete. We used a spray paint called "House Of Kolor" that is available at Wal-Mart. The color on moped has a Tangerine Base, with a Tangelo Clear. We also sprayed all the plastic parts with a Sliver/Gold color custom paint. I had an idea of using a white paint pen too stencil the letters on the sidewalls of the tires. Which I think looks quite well.

We went with a 3 coat for the base color, a 2 coat for the colored clear.

Be careful that you don't have a wreck and skin up your Pertutti on that thing!

Can anyone help identify the model # of this 1989 Yamaha?

Postby rsmischny » Tue Mar 27, 2007 8:23 pm

I just bought this from the 3rd or 4th owner, did not know the exact
model, local Yamaha dealer here in Overland Park was no help at all,
does not support oldie but goodie scooters over 10 years old -

The title says 1989 Yamaha and the VIN decode says it was made in
Japan by Yamaha, the type code in the VIN is 3ESA0. Serial # is
000138. It has usual Yamaha 49cc scooter/moped series features,
shaft drive, separate 2 cycle oil tank, etc.

Can anyone help me figure out exactly what I have? Thanks.

1989 Yamaha

Looks like the 1989 Yamaha in the immediate prior post is a early Zuma II, found good resource to validate this via the VIN model ID table on jacksscootershop.com web site.

Honda Urban Express. Has not run since late 1980s. I don't know what went wrong with it, but I'm tearing it down, cleaning/replacing parts and putting it back together. It should run like new, since I think it has only clocked about 3K miles.

Looks like somebody ran 30 wt motor oil in it. Clean the exhaust port, muffler, carbon out of the head and it should be like new.

Very easy to drive, very good brake system!

Finally got around to taking some pics of my Helix.

This is a good view of the massive built-in trunk, and add-on luggage rack with $85 40L box.
