New Delhi, March 12 (PTI): Looking to add power to its scooter range, Kinetic Motors will introduce a 170-cc scooter in the Indian market from its Italian partner Italjet's range which it hopes will sell 4,000-5,000 units a month.

"We will be launching a 170-cc scooter this month, which is likely to be priced at around Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000," Kinetic group Chairman, Arun Firodia, said here.

Kinetic, which has acquired complete manufacturing and distribution rights for seven best-selling brands from Italjet's range of scooters, plans to beef up its presence in the scooter market with a series of new launches.

"We plan to launch the 170-cc scooter this month and follow this up with another new scooter eight months down the line which will be from our Taiwanese partner Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd (SYM).

The alliance with SYM, finalised last month, is consequent to the Taiwanese company acquiring an 11.1 per cent stake in Kinetic Motor. With SYM manufacturing a range of scooters with engine capacities from 50cc to 150cc, Kinetic hopes to introduce advanced technology platforms following the alliance.

Firodia said the company had plans to launch two new models every year. "This will be our strategy as we move forward," he said.

On the 170-cc scooter, comparitively powerful from the point of view of existing scooter range in the country, he said Kinetic was looking to create an all-new segment. "We feel there is a big market for this kind of a scooter, especially in the urban male, who wants something different from a bike which is powerful as well as convenient," Firodia said.
