Dellorto SHA 14/12P vs. SHA 14/12....what's the difference??

Other than the longer choke arm, what's the difference between a SHA 14/12P and a regular 14/12 model Dellorto carb?

Don't know Larry but here is a link to Dell Orto UK's website and an exploded view of the SHA. There are 5 different choke option configurations.

donp, you may be right. Delloto uses a "C" suffix to denote "cabled choke" and an "L" to denote a "levered choke."

The only other thing I can see is that the 14/12P has that little "L" shaped air tube on the intake side of the carb (behind the filter). What does that tube do anyway?

if your speaking of part number 6 in the exploded view of that carb. that would be a throttle cable guide, it's not an air tube.

now from what i have read so far. the major difference is the 14 12 p is smaller overall than the standard 14 12 carb. my question is, is the carb body the same and the float bowl and carb top parts smaller than the standard carb. or is it a completely different carb altogether.

By looking at the 2 dellortos the only real difference I can see is that the throttle noodle is straight. Nothing drastic and all parts inter-changeable.

thanks so much. i have a 80 bullet a3sp. and i'm planning to do some upgrades. like a full roller a3 crank, a3 reed kit and a pipe matched to the cylinder port timing. and i needed to know more about the sha. because i had heard that the a3 sha carb would need to be the sha 14/12 p to fit properly on the bike. now i think it shouldn't be much of a issue to go with a 16 sha if they are all the same in external sizing.

Same o. Just the throat bore different and jetting. Your intake manifold will still be your original size but can be opened to about 15 mm with a mild ream.
