Bernardi Buzz Insurance ?

Postby NorfolkPaul » Fri Sep 28, 2012 6:55 am

I've just bought a secondhand Bernardi Buzz 35cc fitted to a Dawes hybrid bike.

I researched it quite a bit and found the problems that people are now having with these things concerning getting them UK registered and the expense and problems with single vehicle approval test etc.

I made sure I bought one that was UK registered with plates and a V5c, and even a current MOT.

I've run into another problem though, Insurance.

The NACC mention a deal with Footman James, but they won't insure anything less than 15 years old, and this was registered 12 years ago.

It seems as though "Q" plates are a big No No with most insurers anyway, and then the words "Bernardi Bizz" puts the lid on it.

I've had many mopeds over the past 10 years, and still have a really nice 1979 Suzuki ZR50, which was easy to insure, fully comp, for £60. It seems crazy that the Bernardi is almost uninsurable, despite having a logbook and mot, and capable of only 25mph maximum.

Can anyone help with the names of any other specialist insurance companies I could try ?

I tried MCE as well, but they said they don't insure any "Q" plated bikes that they owner has owned for less than one year ! (how weird is that ? It sounded more like a bog off to me !)

Go to the EACC site in the UK and give a shout out for Andrew Pattle or Mark Daniels. Should be able to point you in the right direction.

I'm beginning to worry that the Bernardi is out on a limb, not being "historic".

No replies yet from any of the vintage cyclemotor associations.

Does anyone know of any online source about them, or owners etc. ?

Insurance seems to be real stumbling block now, especially with the Q plate...
