Need new chain.

Postby simmisj » Thu Oct 18, 2012 10:28 am

Hi.
My chain on my moped just broke and I need a new one. How can I see what type/size of a chain it is?
I still have the chain that broke but I can't compare it to new ones because they are all in some packaging. Isn't there some kind of a number that I can give to my retailer so it will be exactly the right size?
I already bought a chain that I thought might fit. It is for a mountain bike but the chain is to small for the teeth on the moped.

I have a Piaggio Ciao from around 1985 (not sure about the year).

Thanks.

You need size 415 or 41 chain. In the states, #41 chain is more readily available at places like Tractor Supply.

Thanks. Here in Denmark I couldn't get a chain "size 41" so I just took the old chain and compared it to the one in the store.
I found the right chain.
But thanks for your answer.

41 chain is more of an industrial chain, you were right in looking for the 415
