Changing the reed valve on a qt50

Postby Mufflerbearing » Thu Nov 07, 2013 7:51 am

I have a 1979 QT 50. Is there a way to change the reed valve and intake gasket without removing the engine? I have tried removing the screws but they will not budge So I need to explore other options. Thanks for any advice. By the way I'm changing my read valve due to constant bogging of my engine. It will idle just fine but when I go to give it gas it usually just wants to die. I have taken apart the carburetor thoroughly cleaned it. I have replaced the air filter. I have replaced the coil and spark plug wire. I have also replaced the spark plug. While this was going on I went ahead and did the oil pump delete maybe that will help too. KCCO

I pulled the mounting bolt and the shock and got it out. Hope it is still standing in the am.

After replacing the reeds with Boysen power reeds it runs smoother with no bogging and better throttle response. All seems to be well.
