can anyone advise whether puch maxi E50 engine studs ie four bolts that run through piston head are permanently attached to engine block or do they screw out if they need replacing

They are threaded in and can be removed.
Last I saw, there were some new ones available at treatland.tv

Be careful not to over-torque the head nuts. I believe the proper torque for Puch head nuts is only about 8 pounds.

How much is showing? Vice grips, twist and pull. Or drill and re tap Puch head and cylinder where needed to accommodate Tomos studs. Tomos studs are 1 mm larger than Puch.

thanks Jon

Finally ive sorted what i thought was at worse a warped engine block.

Luckily only halve the threaded bolt had snapped and a big mole wrench unscrewed the engine bolt and replaced. The cylinder head gasket was torn on left side, but when i cleaned the piston head and retorqued the head even with a split gasket it fired up and i could feel the air coming out from the side. So all i need is wait for a new gasket to come and it will be as good as new.

I must of been losing compression slowly as the acceleration was bad i might also disconnect the decompression wire as it seems to start better without.

Check with Mark Daniels with the EACC in the UK. He can source parts for you. Head gasket is soft copper/aluminium coating. Complete gasket kits are fairly cheap. You may need seals as they deteriorate over time and cause air leaks also from the crank case. He can be contacted at this e-mail address.
