New member asking for help

Postby IGB » Thu Mar 13, 2014 5:46 pm

Hi guys! I'm new here. I discovered your forum while I was looking for some infos on my new project bike, a 1975 Intramotor Gloria Blanco.

I tried removing the handle bars last night but failed. Could somebody tell me what am I doing wrong? I first removed the top bolt (pretty long one) and loosen wat seemed to be the steering stem. To my surprise, nothing moved. If I loosen it I bit more, bearing balls will start to fall I'm afraid.

Is it possible that the whole front end is welded toghether in some sort?

Thank you!

Install the long bolt screwing it in about an inch or so. You want the bolt to stickup. Hit the bolt with a hammer to drive it down to its base. This will loosen the wedge that the bolt locks in place to hold the handlebars.

What he said, just like most bicycles. Put some penetrating oil down the bolt hole to get around the stem wedge. Years of rust build up in there, some wedges are cast and some aluminium.

Ok thank you guys, I'll give it a try! Do I need to retighten the steering stem nut first?

Just have it (large nut) loose so that balls are not going to go flying. When you get the handlebar stem out use a small magnet pen to grab the loose balls, also don't forget there are balls and race on the bottom once you remove the top nut to drop out the forks. If you are lucky they may be caged balls

It worked! Thank you guy. I didn't know about that wedge thing.

Do you know what kind of sprockets and chain is on this bike?

Chain is #415, sprockets are 11/31 I believe but should be fine after a wire brushing or wiping with steel wool. Really though the best way to start on a moped wake-up is to douse the whole exterior in WD-40, while letting the gas tank soak in acetone for a week or longer. Myron's Mopeds has that chain, as well as the tires/tubes and that ignition condenser you're probably going to need

Thank you bryanofmyrons

The chain is shot and the rear sprocket teeth are sharp as knifes.

While dissasembling the bike I found the speedo cable to be broken. I don't know how many real miles are on these parts. I have to replace them.

As of now the moped is totally disassembled and sits in a box. I'm cleaning the carb and will restore one part at the time during the year.

Has that got a Motori Minarelli engine on it?
