My custom pull start for a Puch Maxi

Postby codycowgill » Mon Apr 27, 2015 2:07 am

So I decided to add a pull start so my wife could start the moped easier due to the high compression making pedal start hard.

These are the components I used:

I ordered the pull start from Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370963188602?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

This is what is used to Connect the pull start to the flywheel: https://www.treatland.tv/ProductDetails ... eel-puller

I cut all the smaller diameter threads completely off the puller and cut half of the threads that connect to the flywheel off. All of this so the pedals would clear and the apparatus was as close to the moped as possible.

I had to order a Magnum pedal crank so the pedals would clear: http://www.treatland.tv/puch-magnum-ped ... -260mm.htm

I wouldn't care about the pedals but they are nice to have and law around here says that the moped must have pedals or it needs to be licensed.

As for the flywheel cover I basically cut the part that bumps out completely off and drilled some holes after the puller was centered in the circle I cut. I had to space the flywheel cover a little bit away from the engine case for the puller to work correctly. This required longer Allen head screws along with some red loctite for safety purposes.

Still need to figure out how to seal around the pull start and flywheel cover but it works great.

Here are the pics:

That's pretty cool! Some ladies don't have enough weight to get it rolling.
