Harley Joel and JLauver.......incredible looking Sebrings.
JLauver...........those engines are easy to get running.........install an in-line fuel filter to keep dirt out of the Dellorto.
Takes the long-threaded spark plug. Champion #801 will work fine.
Set the points at .015" (inches, not millimeters).
Make sure the horn isn't shorted out and it should start if the carb's clean. don-ohio (:^D

Just wanted to post a few pictures of my '79 Zündapp. Recently I've installed different mirrors and put small reflectors over the holes (mounting points for indicators) in the cowling.

You mention costs in your journal as:

"I spent $103 (CDN) on gas and oil (for the 2-stroke engine). Over a trip of 11,518 miles this works out to about 9/10 cent per mile. Or, conversely, 112 miles per dollar (CDN).

I spent $280 (CDN) on food (all from grocery stores).

I spent $0 on accommodation.

Please remember that these are 1978 costs!"

What you don't say is the cost of the moped itself. Since you pretty much wore it out on the trip shouldn't that be included? Good story though and thanks for sharing it.

Hey: Don-Ohio, I like hearing from you, As a matter of fact I was in my garage today( 10/9/05) trying to get the Sebring to start...No Luck! I made sure it was timed right, gapped the points, cleaned out the carb, checked for burned out bulbs, I have spark, I hear fuel entering float bowl, and I opened the the bowl to make sure it's getting gas. The only time I got it to kick was a few weeks ago, when I said I used stater fluid. I want to completely tear it down and restore everything, but I don't want to do that until it runs. And maybe install a Polini 60cc, I'm ready to rewire and fabricate a whole new wiring harness....Any thoughts?

LOL.....Heh,Wardie......I never thought I'd ever BE a Pariah,either.HaHaHaHaaaa!

JLauver, if you have spark, and it's timed correctly at 23 degrees Before Top Dead Center(BTDC), and you have fuel, then check for a really bad gasket inleakage at the base between the cylinder and block, OR a blown crankseal, usually beneath the magneto/stator plate.
But if the plug's wet with fuel, it probably isn't a blown crankseal. don-ohio (:^)

Here's my two putters.

My wife liked the Sprint so much - I bought an LX. Now we can ride together.

First thing I did on the LX was to remove the salad bowl around the headlight and the engine shroud.

Ran into Streetcruiser14 and a buddy on the ride today!

Thanks Don!! Yep, factory stock and both over 100 MPG.

My days of hopping up stuff are long gone. I did the car and motorcycle mod thing most of my adult life. The extra work of dealing with modifications just got tiring - not to mention reliability issues.

Probably run into Streetcruiser again - we are in the same neck of the woods.

Might make a regional ride next year sometime!!

And Chuck - the weather still not too bad - but next month going to have to fill the tanks full, put in gas treatment - drain the carb floats and cover them for the Winter!!
