almost a snail?

Postby scratchmarc » Sun Sep 19, 2004 11:19 am

came across this up for bid on ebay... kinda weird styling, but interesting to see how some mopeds have "evolved".

it sorta does look like a scooter, but a classic nonetheless, especially with the whitewall tires, pedals, big comfortable seat.

Yea the pre-70's mopeds were pretty cool looking. The old motobecanes were pretty stylish too, same with the Puch/allstates.Pretty reliable too.I've owned mobylettes and puch's from the 60's and loved them but parts can be a pain in neck to find.....Willie

Take off the fairing and front fender, and the body panels, the lines really remind me of the indian. The frame is very similar. The engine is totally different. What bike is that exactly?

here's the link for more pics and info:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48830&item=2270619286&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

seems like a neat find but yeah, the replacement parts issue would be a concern.

HaHaHaHaHaaaa! KCTrike............it's got BIG tires(not perty tiny 'lil ones), so it's a moped! Granted.........it's a full bodied one! LOL!
The engine is also FORWARD! Makes most `snails' look like second hand snotrags. Ha! don-ohio (:^D

I know you asked Don-ohio but my guess is Puch Dart.Just guessing but I would suspect it to be from the late 80's to mid-90's.Not sure I like it though.I know when whoever started this website they came up with some arbitrary definition of what a moped is.pedals,motor-forward blah blah splee splee. Then threw out their own rules to allow such ugly underpowered monstrosities such as the solex, honda express,fa50
and even the chain-saw powered amf.And other things that IMO are crap, and don't fit the stated "defination" of moped.I don't really mind people using outdated definations of what is and what isn't a moped but I do think the rules should be impartially inforced.Just venting though,no need for anyone to have a stroke.Willie

It's easy,Joey/Willie, if it's PRETTY,STYLISH, LIGHT,gets 120-150mpg stock,has tires BIGGER THAN A CONTRACTOR'WS WHEEL-BARROW (LOL!), it's a MOPED !
BUT............if it's UGLY, has tires smaller than a Honda Express, and I repeat,UGLY, has a fat rear end and engine fitted rearward, it's a `SNAIL'!
We love PEDALS! We love big tires! We love MOTORBIKES! HaHaHaHaaaaa! don-ohio (:^)
P.S.: Joey..........are you ridin' a stinkin' snail up here to Kevin's Ride? BLECH! don-ohio

You don't see that particular model moped on the market very often, so trying to put a value on it is completely subjective. I tried to sell one in similar condition (with title) a few years ago for $750 and couldn't get it. There were lots of "tire-kickers", but no serious offers. Based on my experience, I think you'd be lucky to get $500 for it. I ended up trading mine for a Puch that was worth around $500.
