condenser checking

Postby mbartell » Thu Apr 07, 2005 1:55 pm

How do you tell if a condenser is bad?

I know it's supposed to be a capacitor that keeps the points from arcing themselves into oblivion, but I don't know how to tell if it's bad or not.

Right now, my moped is running good until it heats up, but it will cut out and bog when at idle, full throttle or in-between.

I figure that the condenser is getting over heated, and poopin on me.

Admittedly the gas isn't that fresh and I could use a new plug, but the fact that this has been a problem for a long time makes me think it's the condenser.

It's a sachs 504 with the motoplat rotor and coil. I have a spare Bosch set up that I could try but I don't have a flywheel puller, and don't want to mess up another shaft.
