Help requested in solving moped theft ... 722658.htm

It was an unusual vehicle that was "jacked" at 7 p.m. Saturday on West Main Street.

A 45-year-old man was riding his Honda moped on West Main Street near Lebanon Road in Belleville when a black SUV pulled in front of him, said Belleville Police Capt. Roger Barfield.

Four men in their early 20s were inside the vehicle and one jumped out and asked if the moped was for sale.

The man, who had braids in his hair, knocked the victim off the moped and rode off on West Main Street toward East St. Louis, Barfield said.

The moped was not recovered.

Anyone with information on the vehicular hijacking is asked to call Belleville police at 234-1212.
