Just bought a TGB/Peirspeed Laser R9i!!!

Postby southpaw32 » Tue Jul 24, 2012 9:13 am

Hey all, I'm new to the forums. I originally had someone trade me a Kymco People 50 for a laptop this December. I've really enjoyed the scooter, and use it for my daily work commute. I upgraded the exhaust and did some air box mods, and made it a little peppier for my hilly commute. I literally added the exhaust on Sat, and on Sunday I happened to see someone selling a 2009 Peirspeed/TGB Laser R91 with 1170 miles. I shot them a low offer, and they accepted.
I'm picking the bike up tonight, as I didn't have a truck available when I went to test drive it.

My question, when can I find more information on this bike?
I'd love to find some manuals to download, and a good site for parts.
Also, in my research from what it appears this is a GY6 engine, but I can't confirm this. Does anyone know?

Also, any recommendations on some fairly simple/inexpensive mods would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Typically the letter "i" in a scooter model designation indicates fuel injected, but both the Peirspeed Laser R5i and R9i have carbs. KYMCO example. Any comments?

the early use of the "i" was not for fuel injection
but for oil injection or nothing at all.....
later, around 2010 the i has been used for fuel injection on some scooters.
but not all...like the TGB's all have carbs.

My wife and I put about 6,000 miles on two TGB Laser R5i scoots before we traded up to a couple of Buddy 125's last year. The Lasers were pretty reliable. The seats can get uncomfortable after a while, however, so I had a gel-pad inserted into mine to smooth out the bump a bit.

There is a forum for TGB owners, although it's never had much traffic. However, you ought to be able to pick up some useful info from it.

guys,
i'm a TGB dealer & i run the TGB forum as admin & moderator . i try to answer most all questions within 24 hrs if not within the first 8 hrs .. yeah
there is not much traffic but remember the percentage of
TGB owners is also small compared to like ruckus's or kymcos.

all sites have ups & downs more or less traffic even this one has no posts for 6-8 weeks at times...
